There have been several changes within the National Electric Code since the installation of Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) in 1990. GFCI’s must be placed at all bathroom, kitchen, basement, garage and outside receptacles.
In 1999, the NEC required all bedroom receptacles to be equipped with Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCI). In 2002, the code included all outlets utilizing current to supply equipment within a bedroom dwelling, i.e. lighting, smoke alarms, etc. Homes built prior to 1999 may not be equipped with electrical safety standards to keep your family safe.
